It's great to get back into the swing of things. Now that September is here we are ready to start the 'new year'. This sew day was spent catching up on everyone's summer fun.
We had 38 quilts turned in at this month's sew day. There's plenty of fabric to go through from some of the donations that have come in and we look forward to seeing everyone's creations in the coming months.
We will start up our once a month sew days now that summer is coming to an end and plan a trip to Children's Hospital to deliver all these wonderful quilts soon.
Feel free to check out our pattern page often. We will update the page with more patterns on a regular basis.

May Sew Day
The May meeting was held at a local quilt shop called Coins and Quilts in West Allis, Wisconsin. The shop has a nice big classroom with plenty of room to set up sewing machines. The room also has cutting mats, rulers, ironing boards and irons available for use. What a nice setup!
Some of our volunteers drove in all the way from Door County for today's sew day. They brought plenty of finished quilts along. It's so fun and inspiring to see the variety of fabrics and quilt patterns used to make these beauties.
The ladies sewed from 10 until after 2 in the afternoon filling the day with their enthusiasm for sewing and creativity. Sew days are a great way to connect with other generous quilting enthusiasts.
Now we look forward to the nice Wisconsin summer so we will not have any more scheduled sew days until September. Until then, we will keep on making more quilts!

March Sew Day
We had a great sew day at Judy's today. Judy finished quilting a quilt on her longarm machine and Bonnie sewed the binding on a few quilts to finish them off. It was a very productive day in her fantastic sewing room. There was plenty of room for all of us to sew and the design boards all around the room made it easy to try new layouts for our quilts.
We could all feel the renewed enthusiasm of the group and look forward to getting back to our regular sewing schedule.

Science Fair Quilt Challenge
Some of our volunteers purchased the pattern, Science Fair from Jaybird Quilts. The challenge was make your own version of the quilt using the pattern. Two of the ladies in our group completed the challenge. Both Pam and Bonnie's quilt tops are beautiful. It's great to see how different everyone interprets a pattern.

There are many free online tutorials and patterns available to make these little gems. So many quilters and pattern designers have generously allowed their online audiences the availability of free patterns and we encourage our volunteers to try them out in order to lower their out-of-pocket costs.
We also love to share what we learn from using a variety of patterns and we all get to benefit from each other.

We have a lofty goal for our first year to make 365 quilts but we're already seeing some great results. If we continue to get the word out, we just might beat that goal! Thank you volunteers.

First Sew Day
The Milwaukee chapter of Quilts for Kids held its first meeting today. We met at Bigsby's in Elm Grove thanks to Rosemary, the shop owner who generously allowed us to use her back room. There were many wonderful ladies who came to check out the group and sew. We had some donated fabrics to work with and some of the ladies cut kits to make them available to anyone interested in making a quilt.
Everyone is welcome at all skill levels. We hope you will join us!
